Daily HS Announcements - Friday, January 19, 2018

Prayer:  Lord God, may we come when you call our names so that we may be blessed with a place at your feast.  We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ the Lord.  AMEN.

1.  Results from the wrestling dual meet last night:
-NC lost dual to Battle Creek 72-12.  Match winners Francisco Mendez and Jacob Craven.
-NC lost dual to Pierce 42-36.  Match winners were:  Wyatt Smydra (pin), Francisco Mendez (pin), Jacob Craven (pin), Brendan Bachman (pin), Brandon Silva (pin), Mason Bykerk (pin).

2.  The Jr. High boys basketball teams were both defeated by Hartington C.C. last night.

3.  Swim results from last night’s dual at home against Kearney:
Boys:  Norfolk 103,  Kearney 82
Girls:  Norfolk 112,  Kearney 73
        
4.  J.V. & varsity girls & boys basketball at home today vs. Wahoo.  Times are as follows:
-J.V. boys  -  4:30 p.m. in Burns Gym
-J.V. girls  -  4:30 p.m. in the Activities Center
-Varsity girls  -  6:15 p.m. in the Activities Center
-Varsity boys  -  7:45 p.m. in the Activities Center

5.  Wrestling at the Oakland-Craig Invite on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
 
6.  Cornhusker Girls & Boys State applications are available in the counseling office for any Juniors interested in attending in June.  These great leadership programs allow participants to experience the governmental process in a fun and interactive way with other leaders in Nebraska.  Contact Mrs. Knudson if you would like more information or an application!

7.  Sergeant Delgado with the US Army will be here during 5th period lunch on Wednesday, January 24th to meet with any 9th-12th grade students.

8.  Auditions for the spring musical will be held this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6:30 p.m.  Auditions will be held in the cafeteria both days.  The musical this year will be The Little Mermaid.  Those auditioning need to prepare 16 bars from a song from a different musical.  The audition will also include acting and choreography components as well.  If anyone is interested only in a tech role, you still need to come to one of the auditions to fill out a form, but will not have to stay beyond that.  Students should sign-up on the counter in the office to audition.  You must attend one of the auditions to be considered for a role.  This musical includes many roles and also a chorus so we need lots of people!!
 
9.  Living Faith Opportunity:  On Sunday, January 28th, the Norfolk Area Right to Life will be hosting their annual “Pro-Life Breakfast”.  They are in need of workers for two shifts….9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  See Mrs. Maas if you are available to help out.

10. The Music Boosters will be offering a Walking Taco Meal Deal on Friday night during the basketball games with Wahoo.  Cost will be $4.50.

11. A Cheer Competition Expo is this Saturday at the YMCA Gymnastics building.  This is open to the public.

12. Spark “Table Game and More Night” is this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in Burns Gym.

13.  The theme for tonight’s basketball games is “Super Hero”

14. Mid-State Conference basketball tournament clothing is available to order online at Custom Sports.  Online orders will close on Tuesday, January 23rd.  The website to order is:

1.  Jr. High boys basketball at home tonight vs. Hartington C.C. starting at 6:15 p.m.

2.  Wrestling triangular at home today vs. Battle Creek & Pierce beginning at 6:00 p.m.

1.  School will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. today due to staff development meetings in the afternoon.

2.  Congratulations to the 7th & 8th grade boys basketball teams on their wins over Columbus Scotus yesterday.  The C team lost to Scotus.

5.  The boys swimming team placed 3rd at the Millard North Invite last Saturday.  The girls team finished 6th.

4.  Congratulations to the J.V. & varsity boys basketball teams on both defeating Crofton on Saturday night.

5.  Congratulations to the wrestling team on placing 11th out of 16 teams at the Cross County Invite on Saturday.  Individual medalists were:  Wyatt Smydra 126 - 3rd place;  Brendan Bachman 182 - 4th place;  Joey Otero 195 - 4th place.

1.  Congratulations to the wrestlers on defeating Creighton last night in a dual meet 45-35.  Match winners were:  Ryan Webbert (pin), Brendan Bachman, Ashtin Arens, Brandon Silva (pin), Nathan Wetjen, Mason Bykerk, Wyatt Smydra, Francisco Mendez.
 
2.  Congratulations to the Jr. High boys basketball teams on their wins over Guardian Angels C.C. last night.  The 7th grade won 39-28 and the 8th grade won 45-29.

3.  J.V. & varsity girls basketball at Wayne tonight starting at 6:15 p.m.

4.  Freshmen girls & boys basketball at home on Saturday vs. Hartington C.C.  The girls will play at 9:00 a.m. followed by the boys game.

5.  Wrestling at the Cross County Invite tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m.

6.  J.V. & varsity boys basketball at Crofton on Saturday starting at 5:00 p.m.

7.  Any students in grades 7-12 that are interested in Quiz Bowl should sign-up on the sheets outside Mr. Sok’s room by the end of the day today.

8.  Today is the registration deadline for the February 10th ACT!

9.  There will be speech practice right after school today in the Library.

10. Any boys, grades 9-12, that are interested in going out for golf this spring should attend a short meeting right after school today in Mr. Korth’s room.

11. On Monday, January 15th, all band members (JH & HS) and the cheer squad (HS only) will have a Jeans Day for showing Spirit at the Western Night basketball games.

12. The Jr. High boys basketball games with Pierce on Monday, January 15th will now be played at NC instead of Pierce.  Starting time for the first game is 4:00 p.m. in Burns Gym.
